I've been way too quiet. x.x In fairness though, I've been quite busy in my offline life. Presented at my first scientific conference, I've been supervising a student, applying for PhDs and all sorts of other things. Won't even be home for the next two weekends. To tell people I'm not dead though I decided to share my laptop experiences. I finally got around my laptop. (It's way too old. If someone wants to buy me a new one...) I was running Ubuntu 12.04 but I now switched to Ubuntu 13.10 with a fresh install and 256 bit full disk encryption. I had to do fresh to add the encryption but it's also nice to remove all the weird changes I made over the years that were probably messing things up. In any case I checked ram use on start up and it now uses just ~250 mb! I've actually seen it running lower than 200 mb. Even while I'm working it stays below 1 gb ram. I compared that to my Windows 7 PC and on startup Windows is using 1,5 gb ram!
